Spray painters help to make vehicles look as good as new. In a typical day, a spray painter might;
	Sand back panels either by hand or with power sanders in preparation for colour application
	Mix and match paint to ensure there are no colour shade variations to adjoining panels
	Mask vehicles in preparation for the application of primer and finishing coats
	Apply primer and finishing coats to panels using spray guns
	Detail vehicles prior to delivery to a customer.
Spray painters need to have good hand-eye coordination and communication skills and enjoy hands-on, practical tasks in a workshop environment. Some flair and a good eye for colour and detail are valuable skills for a spray painter. Spray painting offers lots of scope for professional advancement and further training and provides great job satisfaction on a daily basis. Some spray painters progress to careers as technical field representatives for automotive paint manufacturers, TAFE teachers or insurance assessors.
